History
Founded in 2009, the Spinghar Institute of Higher Education (SIHE) has emerged as one of the foremost institutes of higher education in Afghanistan. The institute has made significant strides in medical education, evidenced by its impressive ranking in the national medical licensing examination conducted by the Afghan government in 2023. SIHE achieved 8th place nationally and secured the top position in the eastern region of Afghanistan, showcasing its commitment to excellence in medical education.
Currently, over 1,550 male students from various regions of the country are enrolled in MD (Doctor of Medicine), DMD (Doctor of Medical Dentistry) and BMLT (Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology) degree programs through a regular study scheme. Notably, SIHE attracts a large number of students from neighboring Pakistan, reflecting its reputation as a leading educational institute in the region.
The institute boasts an impressive alumni network of more than 2,800 graduates. Many of these alumni have successfully obtained FCPS (Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons) and MCPS (Membership of the College of Physicians and Surgeons) credentials, furthering their medical specialties both in Afghanistan and internationally. This success is a testament to the quality of education that SIHE provides.
To ensure that learning outcomes are met at both the departmental and faculty levels, SIHE has established and maintained well-equipped laboratories and a comprehensive teaching hospital. The teaching hospital features more than 13 wards accommodating both outpatient department (OPD) and inpatient department (IPD) patients, providing students with hands-on experience in a clinical setting. In May 2024, the teaching hospital underwent significant upgrades, enhancing its capacity to serve students and the community.
In terms of academic recognition, SIHE successfully passed the second stage of academic accreditation in April 2022. The institute is committed to implementing quality assurance and enhancement standards as it prepares for the third and final stage of accreditation.
